Black Owned Businesses

Hello All!

With everything that is going on in the U.S. right now, I thought it was overdue that I put a blog out addressing the systemic racism that has been plaguing our nation since its inception. As a mixed Black woman (I am also part Japanese-American), I feel that it is very important that we invest our dollars in businesses that are Black owned and minority owned. I normally don’t put my photo on the blogs, but I felt that it was important to put a face to the name French Butter Knife. I will not go into depth right now my story and issues being a business owner, female and African-American. I will however give you all a list of businesses that are Black owned that you can easily support in California. Some of you might already know of some of these businesses, and if you have any that are not included, please put them in the comments. Because this is a food blog I want to list resources for food and food related topics only.

I hope that I don’t have to explain WHY it’s important for individuals to support and elevate Black enterprise, but in case you don’t understand, here is a link to a video that explains all of it really well - and he’s a fellow Bruin - go U.C.L.A. !!

Economic Support for Blacks

There’s a lot of studies about how putting money into BIPOC communities will help “level” the playing field so to speak to their white counterparts, and will hopefully, inevitably in the long term eradicate the oppressive systems that were built to keep us down.

Here is a list of Restaurants in California that you can support:

LA Black Owned Restaurants (Los Angeles)

LA Black Owned Restaurants 2 (Los Angeles)

OC Black Owned Restaurants (Orange County)

SD Black Owned Restaurants (San Diego)

SF and East Bay Black Owned Restaurants

Bay Area List 2

Here is a list of some Black food bloggers (and one Indigenous chef), these are their Instagram handles:

@iamtabithabrown

@bakesbybrownsugar

@supperwithmichelle

@butterbeready

@siouxchef

Please feel free to add to this list in the comments below! I know there are many more special people who I didn’t list, hopefully we can grow it. Stay safe everyone!
